Dr Maria Xenaki
Counselling Psychologist
Maria is an HCPC registered and BPS chartered Counselling Psychologist at Sysi. With over 15 years of experience in mental health, Maria has worked across various NHS settings and private clinics. In addition to her clinical work, Maria is passionate about teaching and training, serving as a postgraduate university teacher and clinical supervisor for other psychologists.
Maria implements an integrative, collaborative, and personalised approach to care, tailoring therapy to suit the distinctive needs of each client through a range of therapeutic modalities. She is trained in multiple evidence-based therapeutic methods, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Behavioural Family Therapy (BFT), and third-wave CBT approaches such as Mindfulness, Schema Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Maria has extensive experience in supporting adult clients with a diverse range of needs and issues, including life transitions and emotional challenges such as depression, grief, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic attacks, phobias, low self-esteem, psychotic experiences, childhood trauma, motherhood and parenthood difficulties, relationship problems, and interpersonal difficulties.
Maria holds a doctorate in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology from the University of Surrey.
